Lotus C-01 Concept

Client: Kodewa  |   Time:  2013   |   Credit: Lead Stylist

The Lotus C-01 is a limited production motorcycle under the licensed name Lotus.

It has been developed by Kodewa in collaboration with Kalex, whose chassis dominated the Moto2 World Championship for years. Daniel was contracted as the lead stylist on the project and developed the shapes and look of the bike closely with engineers from Kodewa and Kalex. Daniel left the project after the release of the concept renders in the global media, and did therefore not overlook the finish of the production examples.

Kodewa has been granted a license to produce the motorcycle by Group Lotus plc, the world renowned sportscar manufacturer and engineering consultancy, hence it is not directly related to the car maker. The C-01 is powered by a 200 hp version of the 75 degree v-twin Rotax motor from the KTM RC8R super bike.

It was planned to produce 100 C-01.

Designer Daniel Simon said: “The design process of the C-01 was a labour of love – there were many challenges – ensuring that the bike not only touches your visual senses with its timeless blend of classic appeal and modern execution, but that is safe and ergonomically sound was critical to me. We have worked hard to create a motorcycle with very distinctive features such as a clean main body, an extremely low side profile, a bold stance, a unique air intake, logical partline solutions and clean graphics.”

The C-01 will be available in a range of liveries some of which pay homage to Lotus’ sporting pedigree. A customization service is also available, limited only by the imagination of the client. With an exclusive production run of just 100 units, superbike collectors and fans of the Lotus brand will need to move fast to secure one.

Road & Track

The Lotus C-01 is one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever created. Just look at it. Marvel at the majesty of this machine. It’s stunning. It’s also a fanciful, farcical take on what a 200-horsepower superbike should be in the 21st century. This is not surprising, given that the C-01 was designed by Daniel Simon.

Certainly one of the most extreme modern motorcycles on the planet … With a look conceived by Daniel Simon, creator of the light cycles in the film Tron: Legacy, the bike unmistakably shares the same design DNA of its cinematic counterpart.
